On May 22, 2024, Patrick Gehue, beloved father, partner, son, brother, uncle, friend, and proud member of the Sipekne'katik First Nation, peacefully joined the creator in the Mi'kmaq spirit world. Patrick was born in Indian Brook, NS on June 29, 1965. He spent his childhood on this small reservation where he developed into a local sports legend.
He was dubbed as 'Patty-Boy' in his childhood amongst a large multi-generational matriarchal Mi'kmaq family. He was the first member of his extended family to complete school. He became a passionate believer in education touting and encouraging lifelong learning along any avenue. He was also a brilliant artist.
Paddy was also the first Sipekne'katik First Nation member to become a regular member of the RCMP in 1987.
In lieu of flowers, the family will greatly accept donations to the 'Patty-Boy Project.' Smallwood Academy students will be creating a resource on Truth and Reconciliation and legacy of Patty-Boy.
